It was early. The rising sun barely peeked in the horizon, and Natsuki had just finished tying her hitai-ate around her forehead. Her bangs flopped over the smooth metal as the rest of her hair was brought into a high pony-tail. Natsuki gave herself a once over in front of the mirror before leaving her house and jogging her way over to a public training area.
Her eyes scanned the area for anyone else. She nodded her head in satisfaction before positioning herself in front of a wooden dummy with targets. After taking in a deep breath, Natsuki's eyes narrowed in concentration as her hands flicked open her weapons pouch.
With quick swings and a flick of her wrists, three kunai were hurled towards the dummy.
Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!
One of the kunai hit dead center while the other two landed on the second and third rings. She clicked her tongue in irritation. After all her extra training academy, and she still couldn't hit get a hundred percent accuracy. Natsuki sighed as she went over to retrieve her weapons.
An eerie breeze passed by as she was about to pluck her final weapon from the straw target. Natsuki tried to listen with her senses for anything unusual - an out of place puddle or something added. Cautiously she yanked the last kunai out before slipping into a battle stance.
Shhirk! Thud!
The shuriken had came out of no where, and Natsuki hadn't been able to dodge it fully. Blood seeped from the nicked wound on the juncture between her neck and shoulder. Where did that come from? She thought wildly, trying to figure out the enemy's position. But it seemed that Natsuki didn't need to search any longer. Her opponent, well opponents - seeing as there were two of them, revealed themselves by stepping out from behind a thick tree.
"Well, well. Look who cheated herself out of the academy." The boy sneered.
Natsuki sent the intruders a glare. They were the top two bullies in the academy, Shiro and Kuro - twins.
"What do you want, Kuro?" She snarled at the one who had just spoken, ignoring the insult he had thrown at her.
Kuro shrugged his broad shoulders before nodding towards his brother. Shiro returned the gesture, and began to run towards Natsuki at top speed. Natsuki, determined not to lose, met him half-way.
Clink! Shhirk! Cling! Cling!
They exchanged quick blows, though none of them got past either defense, before jumping back. Unfortunately for Natsuki, Kuro had been waiting for an opening. Just as she landed, his shadow drooped over her. Damn! I forgot about him. She cursed herself as she tried to jump to the side and avoid his incoming attack.
But Natsuki moved too late. The blow landed behind her neck, causing her to drift between conscious and unconscious realms.
Do you need me already, Natsu? Shame... A chilling voice echoed through Natsuki's mind. Right then, Natsuki knew that she'd regret ever going to the training grounds.
Yuki... She called out before completely blacking out. Don't hurt them too badly.
The voice let out a soft giggle.
